Steven Dale Raines, 59, of Denton, Texas, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013. Steve was a devoted husband, awesome dad and loving grandpa whose greatest joys were his family, golf and traveling — in that order.

Steve and his wife, Ruby, had an enduring love that started with love at first sight on the steps of the Denton County Courthouse on the Square and lasted 35 years. They married on July 22, 1978, within a year after meeting and built a wonderful life and family together filled with laughter and joy. Steve was a proud, loving father to Tyler and Stacey, and was excited to see the Raines family grow when they married their spouses, Anne and Travis. He was most excited about becoming a grandpa last year to his first grandchild, Karlee Deann.

Steve was born on May 21, 1954, in Vernon, Texas, to Dean and LaNita McBride Raines. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976 and worked in the land title industry for 35 years.

Steve is survived by his wife, Ruby; daughter, Stacey Raines Hooker, and husband, Travis; son, Tyler Hill Raines, and wife, Anne; grandchild, Karlee Deann; sister, Paula Raines Golden, and sister, D'yon Butler, and husband, Gary; stepfather, Paul Hawkins and wife, Sunny; extended family members; Don and Gail Hill; Mike Hill and Ruth; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 5, 2013, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service beginning at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors.
