Obituary

Susan Jane Harbin, born April 9, 1952, in Denton, Texas, peacefully passed away on June 7, 2026, in Denton. Born during an earthquake to William and Emma Nell Barker (Leverett), Susan was the second child in her family. Her journey through life was marked by enduring love and a resilient hardy spirit.

On January 8, 1971, Susan married Claude Ray Harbin, with whom she shared over four decades of marriage until his passing on August 10, 2015. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Claudia and Kathryn. The family initially settled in Lewisville, Texas, where they lived until 2007. Later, Susan, Ray, and Claudia moved to Denton to be nearer to Kathryn and her family for additional support.

Following the unexpected loss of her beloved husband Ray, Susan found comfort living with Kathryn, her husband Terry and their children in Denton. Over the subsequent years, Susan's health gradually declined, leading to her placement in nursing home care in 2018. On June 6, 2026, Susan was transferred to Medical City Denton due to complications, where despite the dedicated care, she passed away on June 7th.

Susan is mourned deeply by her daughters, Claudia Harbin of Denton and Kathryn Shilling, along with her husband Terry of Denton. She took immense pride in her grandchildren, who remain a testament to the love and family values she cherished: Zackary and his wife Katelyn of Dallas; Kaitlynn Church and her husband Bennett of Corinth; Emma Rae and Grayson Shilling of Denton; and Brittani Rita with her children Chevy-Luv, Brooklynn, Cheyenne, and Jasmine of Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband Claude Ray Harbin; her parents William (WA) and Emma Nell Barker (Leverett); and her brother Timothy. Susan’s life was enriched by many dear friends and family whose memories will forever be intertwined with hers.

A graveside service to honor Susan’s life will be held on June 12, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Justin Cemetery, located on Justin Cemetery Road in Justin, Texas.

Susan Jane Harbin’s legacy is one of steadfast devotion and love—a life beautifully lived and fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her spirit remains present in the hearts of her family and their extended communities.
