Susan B. Smith, 72, of Denton, Texas passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026, at Medical City Denton Hospital, surrounded by her adoring family. Always known as “Susie”, she was born in Gainesville, Texas on October 22, 1953. Susie graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelors in Journalism and later earned her Juris Doctorate from the South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas, Susie had a long and distinguished career as a trial attorney, obtaining favorable verdicts for her clients in courts all over the State of Texas.

Susie is survived by her husband, Stewart K. Smith, son Joel Phillips, and his wife Rishia, and her cherished grandchildren Ian and Ivy.

Susie will be remembered as a gracious, kind, and loving soul who never met a stranger. Susie had a deep sacrificial love for her family. She had a divine relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This divine relationship led her to daily pray fervently and without ceasing for her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

Susie frequently prayed her favorite scripture over her loved ones, 2 Corinthians 10:5: “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Susie was a blessing to all who met her and has now heard these words from Jesus: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” 

A funeral service for Susan will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, beginning at 2:00 P.M. at Denton Presbyterian Church. 

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. 

All are welcome to join a reception that will be held immediately following the funeral service.

Family & friends will depart at 4:00 P.M. to lay Susie to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas.
