Obituary

Thomas Henry Ament, Sr. passed away on November 19, 2017 in Lewisville, Texas with family by his side. He was born on March 20, 1927 in Nashville, Tennessee to Samuel and Jennie Lacy Ament.

He is survived by his daughters: Brenda Dye and husband Clarence of Farmington, NM; Mary Gahagan and husband Dennis of Southbridge, MA; Jennie Palesano and husband Dave of Ardmore, OK; Rebecca Ales and husband Cleve of Dallas, TX, and his sons: Thomas Ament, Jr. and wife Patty of Ardmore, OK; Leonard Ament and wife Colleen of Denton, TX; 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Thomas joined the Tennessee State Guard at the age of 16 and subsequently enlisted in the US Coast Guard to serve in World War II. He later enlisted in the US Air Force and was active for 22 years, plus 8 years reserve, before retiring as a Master Sargent.
Upon military retirement, he was employed as a helicopter mechanic by Dynalectron Corp., a military support contractor during the Vietnam War. He sustained injuries during a late night attack and was later awarded a Purple Heart. Thomas then taught Metal Trades at Big Spring High School from 1974-84. Serving our country was always important to Thomas and he later became part of the Confederate Air Force.

He was a member of Justin Church of Christ and previously a long-time member of Birdwell Lane Church of Christ in Big Spring, TX before moving to north Texas in 2006.  Thomas was a great teacher and storyteller who also loved repairing lawn mowers and working in his garage.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen, daughter "Baby Girl", mother, father and brother, Samuel Ament, Jr.

The family will receive friends at DeBerry Funeral Directors on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 6-8 PM. A graveside service will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM with full military honors.
