Thomas Elmo Nunn, born July 18, 1941 to Thomas Lee Nunn and Mary Bell Nunn (Winders), passed away peacefully on Saturday May 16, 2026 at the age of 84. He leaves behind Bonnie Nunn, his wife of 61 years, his daughter Christine West and son-in-law Dwight West and his son Thomas Devin Nunn, all in the Denton area.
Thomas, aka “Tom or Tommy” was born in Fort Worth, the oldest of two children. He graduated high school in Fort Worth and soon after enlisted in the US Navy. He served four years on various aircraft carriers and had a very tense few days in October 1962 while his ship participated in the blockade during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He reminisced about the liberty night out in Guantanamo when the lights came on and everyone was ordered back to the ship immediately, having no idea the point in history he was now a part of. After the Navy, he joined Bell Helicopter, becoming a senior flight mechanic, where he worked until retirement. He also served in the US Navy and US Army reserves for twelve years.
Tom enjoyed all woodworking but most of all, making little wooden toys for kids. On his good days, he would spend time on his motorized wheelchair pumping out cars, trucks and motorcycles then bag them up and hand them out to children at the grocery store while shopping. Sometimes he would sell them to his neighbors at the senior community complex, just to buy more wood and start over again. His most prized creation was a ten car circus train, which took almost a year to complete.
Tom loved his family and the Lord. He was a very private person but if he heard of anyone in need he would be the first to help. He will be greatly missed and was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws and sister Rosemary Dutton and husband Charles. In addition to his immediate family, he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and their families, as well as his little chihuahua Sadie, his grand-dog Wilson and grand-cat Mya.
