Thomas Lloyd Van Doren, of Sanger passed away on September 1, 2016 at his home. He was born on October 12, 1948 to Lloyd and Evelyn (Peters) Van Doren in New Jersey. He attended Rutgers University and The University of North Texas. He married Christine Miller on June 8, 1973 in Atlanta, Georgia and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Denton.
Tom grew up on the family farm near Griggstown, NJ where his family had settled for the previous 200 years. After living a short time each in Princeton, NJ and Atlanta, GA he moved to Lewisville, TX in 1975. He worked in construction until starting a career as a police officer in Irving. He became a detective and sergeant before becoming Assistant Police Chief of University Park. His hobbies included genealogy, classic cars, and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Christine, daughters, Amanda Marek and Sarah Ryburn, sons; Lee Van Doren, Russell Maine, Adam Van Doren, Benjamin Van Doren, fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Donna Hutcheson.
