Obituary

Threesa Katherine Jenkins Penton passed away on July 19th, 2015 at 8:04 A.M. at Denton Regional Medical Center. She was born on Dec 21, 1918 in Gainesville, TX.

After living in Lubbock for a few years as a child, the family moved to Rosston. She attended school in a one room school house and worked hard at home, caring for siblings and helping to run the family farm.
On June 2, 1940 she married the love of her life, James Lowell Penton who became a Lt. in the U.S. Coast Guard. With the military, they changed residences often, living in New Orleans, New York, Mobile, Alabama, and Galveston, TX to name a few.

After the military, Katherine and Lowell spent time in Ft. Worth, TX before settling in Denton in 1947. They were married 68 amazing years when Lowell passed away in 2008.

Katherine attended Gainesville Jr. College then transferred to TWU where she earned her BS in Education and a Masters Degree in Home Economics. After teaching several years in Center Point on the outskirts of Denton, she accepted a position in the Home Economics Dept. at Denton Jr. High and later Strickland Jr. High. Katherine ran that department and positively influenced hundreds of women in the Denton area. She retired from teaching after 30 years of service to DISD.

She and Lowell attended First Christian Church, Denton, where she was on the board and was a regular donor. Katherine was very active in her church circle & cherished the friends she made there. She was also a member of the Denton Country Club and played bridge with 11 other women for many years.

Katherine and Lowell had 2 children: Jim Penton (wife Cindy) and Dianna Penton Alagood (husband Richard); 3 grandchildren: Lisa Penton Hineman, Scott Alagood (wife Dawn), and Brad Penton (wife Tracy). Katherine also had 8 great-grandchildren: Bailey, Katelyn, Allie, Tess, Ryan, Jack, Price, and Addison. Katherine adored her family and cared for her grandchildren most every weekend-enjoying the lake, boating, and taking them on trips. She hunted pheasant with her spouse Lowell, enjoyed sewing, gardening, dancing, and travel--specifically to Hot Springs, AR to the horse races, Galveston, Ruidoso, NM, and abroad to Europe. She appreciated hard work and nice things, took pride in her home and her appearance, but family was most important. She balanced career and family with ease. She was a true southern lady!

Katherine was preceded in death by her father Calvin Clyde Jenkins, mother Bonnie Weaver Jenkins, younger sister Voncille Jenkins Beall, and brother Alex Jenkins.

Katherine Penton was the cherished Matriarch of our family and she will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 23, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral service will at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at First Christian Church in Denton. Burial will follow at Rosston Cemetery in Rosston, TX.
