Obituary

Tobye Ann (Newland) Blagg passed away to be with her Savior Monday, June 29th, 2026. She was born in Denton, Texas to Lafayette and Lockadee Newland.

Tobye is preceded in death by her two sons, Zackary Blagg and Anthony Blagg, her mother, Lockadee Newland, and her sister, Joni (Newland) Coker. Tobye is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Rodney, her father, Lafayette Newland, her son, Skyler, and his wife, Anita, and her daughter, Grace, and her husband, Greg. Tobye’s legacy is further continued in her grandchildren, Elijah, Ethan, and Elliot Blagg, and Chloe and Simon Borst. She will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Tobye’s heart for her family is the greatest example of her love for Christ, a love that will live on in everyone who knew her. Her greatest ministry was keeping a home for her husband and children, teaching them to love Jesus and one another each day. Her passion for adoption expanded her family after the birth of her oldest son, Zackary. She later designed artwork for Ray of Sunshine sitting services, working with some of her dearest friends. Tobye fiercely battled type 1 diabetes from childhood and kidney disease for over two decades. She was always eager to lend an encouraging word to others battling similar circumstances, pray for those she loved most, and pray for those she briefly encountered, knowing that she could be the only example of Jesus someone may ever see.

Services will be held at Gateway United Baptist Church in Denton, Thursday, July 2nd. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m.

Graveside service will follow immediately after at Roselawn Memorial Park.
