IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tom Keith
Leedy
October 28, 1943 – April 1, 2021
Tom Leedy (Thomas Keith Leedy), 77, of Richardson, passed away on April 1, 2021. He was born in Fort Worth on October 28, 1943, to George (Red) W. Leedy, Jr. and Opal Brock Leedy. He graduated from Denton High School in 1962 and went on to earn a degree in Business Management from The University of North Texas in 1967.
A handsome young man and a heck of a salesman, Tom convinced Linda Sue Adcock to accept his hand in marriage. They were married on September 8, 1967, in Denton. In 1968, the young couple bought their first house in Richardson, Texas, where they spent the next forty-three years raising their family, living life committed to each other, with Tom trying to walk the line set by a strong-minded red headed wife. Linda preceded him in death in 2010.
Tom was an adventurous businessman with many endeavors. In his early career, he specialized in internal audit and spent a significant amount of time traveling to various locations around the country. One of his most memorable professional experiences was working for Justin Industries through the Nocona Boot Company. During his time in Nocona, Tom and his family participated in the Nocona Boot Riding Club. He rode in the Sesquicentennial Wagon Train, spent lots of time in grand entries for rodeos, riding in Montague County with family and friends, creating fellowship and friendships that would stand the test of time. With his family growing up, Tom took on his next business adventure in the car business in Dallas. He served as a salesperson for many years, and then moved into being the sales manager for the Red Carpet Leasing Program at Prestige Ford. As with anywhere he went, he loved working with people. His days at the dealership, once again, created friendships and love with everyone around him. Tom's final career move was helping to close loans for Luna and Luna all around the state of Texas. This, once again, was right up Tom's alley, as he was constantly presented with the opportunity to meet new people and serve their needs. His titles over the years may have changed, but his approach to taking care of people never deviated, not once. He was a true friend to all those with whom he served, and he never met a stranger.
Growing up as the son of a State Trooper DPS Officer, Tom always held law enforcement in high regard and maintained a huge interest in the profession. Following his retirement, Tom became involved with the Richardson Police Department. This provided a way for him to serve the community where he had lived for decades, as well as work alongside the respected women and men of the department. He served in several volunteer capacities and was willing to do whatever the department needed at the time. He was proud of his time with this organization and would have loved to have been able to do more.
Throughout the years, Tom and Linda enjoyed making memories with a group of friends who became affectionately known as the Nomads (THABTO). This group of special friends traveled together, RV'd together and raised families together across deserts, mountains, beaches and every campsite in between. Square dancing is what brought them together, and they have never missed an opportunity for a good practical joke. It should come as no shock that Tom Leedy was generally a part of the master plan. This group of friends continues to stay in touch, to support one another, and to consider each other as family.
Tom found his way into a new facet of his spiritual life a few years ago when he was introduced to a wonderful Sunday School class known as the Truth Seekers at Hunters Glen Baptist Church. This served as so much more than just a spiritual connection, but also as a source of support, activity, love, and care for one another. This group of folks were often found on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, lunch following Sunday services, and social gatherings throughout the year. Tom enjoyed the fellowship of this group through some pretty isolated times of this past year and they were all constantly checking in on each other. He was proud of the bonds that were made and the acceptance that they all offered. He found a sense of belonging and treasured sharing the path of life with each and every one of them.
Through all of Tom's travels and experiences, his greatest joys came through the opportunity to spend time with his kids and grandkids. Always willing to be flexible with busy schedules, it was a common sight to find Tom at every sporting event, dance competition, Nutcracker performance, baseball tournament, soccer game, basketball game, football game, flag corps performance, choir concert, grandparents' day, school play, piano recital, birthday party, holiday, camp send off, Common Ground church service, and most importantly, whenever the phone rang asking for Cane's Chicken, Fuzzy's Tacos, or Chick-Fil-A. These were things that he took great pride in and he made sure that all of the grandkids knew how proud he was of each of them. He loved them without boundaries, and they shared a special bond that only a grandparent can create.
Tom is survived by son, Robert Leedy and wife Jennifer of Murphy, TX, daughter Diana White of Wolfe City, TX, brother Terry Leedy and wife Dege of Arlington, five grandchildren: Kennedy & Colton White; Jensen, Landon & Jordyn Leedy, nieces Erin Leedy Thurston and Megan Leedy Jones, and countless friends he considered family.
