Travis Sherrod, age 95, of Denton passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014. Travis was the eldest son born May 4, 1919 to Sidney and Ona Sherrod in DeSota Parish Ward 8, Louisiana. Travis served our country in the Army during WWII as a Private First Class Officer. He held many positions throughout his lifetime in law enforcement, Deputy Sheriff Reserve for the Harris County Sheriff's office, and worked with the Narcotics Division, as well. He later went on to work for the City Of Houston as a Chief Sanitation Inspector for 36 years.
The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 W. University Dr., Denton, Tx., on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm for a visitation. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 9 am. Burial will follow a full honor military service at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Brown, 104 Visalia Ln., Denton, Tx 76210, following the burial service.
Travis is survived by his wife Dorothy J. Sherrod; daughters Elizabeth Brown and husband Bruce and Anne Robinson; grandsons, Scott Stevens and wife Shannon, Ryan Beane, Samuel Beard, Cody Burks, and Ashton Hawkins; and nephew Earl Wheeler. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eugene Sherrod; sisters Martha, Mary, and Beatrice.
