Obituary

VEDA BELL MARLEY, 78, of Denton, Texas passed peacefully with a smile as she went to be with the Lord Saturday May 14, 2022.

Veda was born April 1, 1944. She was the youngest of five children. Veda always spoke lovingly about her brothers and sisters. She had many great memories growing up of her older siblings helping to take care of her. Veda had many nieces and nephews that were also very special to her.

In high school, Veda played on the Varsity basketball team and later in life enjoyed playing basketball with her Grandchildren. She also played Volleyball, was in the junior and senior play and was active in FHA. Veda's senior year she was voted Best All Around Girl, the art editor for the school newspaper, was the class treasurer, worked on the annual staff and Graduated Salutatorian from Bryson High School.

After high School, Veda followed in her sister Helen's footsteps and obtained her Cosmetology License.

Veda lived in Germany for three years and in total has traveled to 15 foreign countries.

Veda moved to Denton, Texas in 1970. She was an independent successful businesswoman. She owned the Village Beauty Salon for over 48 years and other commercial property. Through her success as a businesswoman, Veda always remained a hard worker, humble, kind and generous. Veda often helped the homeless and those in need. Over Veda's 52 years living in Denton, Veda would help many people and organizations. She gave unconditionally monetarily, but most of all she shared about her Faith and God's love. She handed out Bibles and Books about Christianity to everyone from the Homeless, her Friends, Customers, Children and Grandchildren. Veda's love for her Lord and Savior was evident to all her met her.

Veda was a very gifted artist. She loved to dance and won several competitions.

Veda took great pride in the gift of motherhood. She loved being a mom to her two sons Bryan and Steven. If you spent time with her you knew the immense love she had for them. When Steve married Tammie she said she finally got the daughter she always wanted. Veda and Tammie were very close and had a true mother/daughter relationship. Later Tammie became her caregiver as she went through the stages of dementia.

Veda's greatest joy was being Gran-Gran to Cody, Wade and Jessica. She made many special memories with each grandchild over the years. Veda loved her family well and made each love one feel important and cherished.

Veda is preceded in death by her parents Calvin and Lillie Underwood, brother Clinton Douglas, sisters Helen Winkler and Pearl Langford, nephew Bobby Winkler, who was more like a brother to her and several other nieces and nephews.
