IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Verna L.
Young
March 26, 1933 – June 9, 2025
Verna L. Young passed away at the age of 92, at her home in Argyle, Texas on Monday, June 9, 2025, from complications after a fall 3- and one-half weeks earlier. Thank you to Trio Hospice for the care they provided to our precious mother.
Verna was born in Bremond, Texas to Mike and Maggie Hobin on March 26, 1933. Verna married Billy Young in 1953, and they had 68 wonderful years together. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and 8 brothers and sisters. Verna was the youngest of nine siblings and lived to be the oldest.
She made the decision to put her home up for sale and move from Country Lakes, in 2024. In December of 2024, she moved into her own little apartment attached to her daughter and son-in-law's home, Kathy and David Yoder, in Argyle, Texas. Up until the day of her fall, Verna was driving her own car, shopping, cooking, cleaning, attending Holy Masses St. Mark Catholic Church and participating in various activities as often as she could.
When Verna and Billy moved from Mesquite, Tx to be closer to their daughter and family 17 years ago, Verna was determined to become involved in her new parish home by joining activities and making new friends. She attended a Women's ACTS Retreat at the age of 78 and made many new friends and Sister's in Christ. She was a member of St. Mark Marianist Society, the Rosary making group, the Altar Linen group and had been a Eucharistic Minister for many years.
She was a nonstop prayer warrior for all those in need. She was a devout Catholic and loved to read about her faith and put her faith into practice by teaching her daughters and hundreds of children through the years about the Catholic faith, through the CCD program at the parish she attended for over 30 years. She also taught RCIA for new converts to the Catholic faith.
Verna was beautiful inside and out, energetic, positive, kept a meticulously clean home, was a fantastic cook, and loved to celebrate holidays.
Verna will be deeply missed by all who knew her but especially her 2 daughters, Kathy Yoder and husband David, of Argyle, Tx, and Joann Worley and husband Joe, of Monroe, Louisiana.
She leaves behind 1 granddaughter and 2 grandsons. Ashley Allen and husband Jonathan of Callisburg, Texas. Joseph Simmons Worley, III and wife Allene of Monroe, Louisiana, and Dr. Michael Worley and wife Eliza of New Orleans, Louisiana.
She also leaves 6 greatgrandchildren that she loved so very much. Kennedy and Jesse Allen, Simmons and John Thomas Worley, and Lizzie Jane and Britton Worley. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Verna will be cremated and a funeral mass held at St. Mark Catholic Church at a later date to be determined and announced.
