Vicki McKean, 70, of Dallas, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 24, 2026, just three days before her 71st birthday. She leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a lifetime of love and devotion to those who knew her.
Born on October 27, 1955, Vicki grew up in Jacksonville, Illinois. She earned her LVN at 19 and RN qualifications in 1995 from Lone Star College in Tomball, Texas and dedicated her career to nursing, retiring from Green Oaks Psychiatric Hospital. Her compassion, patience, and commitment to caring for others were qualities that extended far beyond her profession.
At the heart of Vicki's life was her beloved wife, Vicki Cadenhead. Together for 30 years and married for 13, they were not only partners but best friends. Their relationship was built on enduring love, laughter, friendship, and the comfort of knowing they could always count on one another.
Vicki was a devoted wife, loving stepmother, and proud grandmother. She believed in hard work, taking care of family, and showing love through actions rather than words. She rarely complained, never sought recognition, and could always be counted on when someone needed her.
Though naturally reserved, Vicki had a gentle, understated sense of humor that brought smiles to those around her. She loved movies, enjoyed playing softball in her younger years, and remained a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Even after retiring from nursing, she continued working and staying active, demonstrating the remarkable work ethic that defined her life.
Vicki is survived by her loving wife, Vicki Cadenhead; her daughter, Allison Hartzell; her grandchildren, Madison and Hunter Hartzell; her brother, Michael McKean; her cousins, BJ Finnell and Jim McKean; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John McKean and Kathryn Ann Lutkehus.
Vicki's greatest legacy is found in the family she helped build, the lives she touched, and the countless ways she made others feel loved and cared for. She never needed to be the center of attention to make a lasting difference.
She lived quietly, loved fiercely, and gave generously of herself. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her love will remain forever.
