IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vina Lou
Mcclain
June 6, 1940 – September 18, 2025
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Vina Lou Mayfield McClain. Vina was born on June 6, 1940, and transitioned out of this life on September 18th, 2025. Through her journey of 85 years, she touched many lives with her fortitude, friendship, and service.
Vina was very talented with all kinds of crafts - sewing, knitting, and even dabbled in painting in her last few years. She will be mostly remembered as an amazing mom, the greatest Nana, and a true friend to many.
She was a proud Texan who was born in Kermit, Texas and raised in Midland. She loved the West Texas skies and relished the opportunity to go with her father, Harve, to the oil fields as he did well checks.
Family was the center of Vina's life. Vina and Don were married for 60 years. She was an extraordinary caregiver to her late husband for many years, an ever-present Nana who was always up for anything her three grandchildren had in mind; they could convince her to do just about anything.
As a longtime resident of Lancaster, Texas Vina worked as an administrator at Lancaster High School for a number of years. She was very proud of her service and contributions to the Lancaster Parks and Recreation board, especially serving as Vice Chair ushering in a beautiful new Recreation Center in 2001.
Vina's dedication to others, whether it be family, friends, or her community was remarkable. She was always working to help others. Upon moving to Denton in 2014 she joined the Denton Lions Club where she would serve in various roles and participate in numerous service projects.
She will be greatly missed and forever remembered by her family and her wonderful community of friends.
She is survived by her loving children, Melinda Rule and husband Jason Rule of Denton, Texas. Her son, Daniel McClain and his wife Candie McClain of Burleson, Texas. Her three grandchildren, Emma Rule and her husband Sam Wood, their son Adrian, Caleb McClain, and Jackson McClain. As well, her sister Mary Grace Mayfield of Midland, Texas.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Donald McClain and her parents Harve and Lillian Mayfield.
A memorial service celebrating Vina's exceptional life will be held on October 3, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel in the Woods at Texas Woman's University in Denton Texas. We invite all who knew and loved Vina to join us in honoring her memory.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Vina's legacy of service and care for others with a donation to the Denton Lions Club as they provide eyesight assistance to many people in our area. If so desired, please also consider planting a tree or making a donation of discarded craft items to Thistle in Denton. This, we believe, would be the best tribute to her extraordinary life.
