Virgil Dan Smith, 73 of Denton passed away at home on Thursday, May 11, 2016. Dan was born on February 4, 1943 in Denton, Texas to Glenn and Ruby (Bishop) Smith.
He attended Denton High School, T.C.U., Howard Payne University and served in the U.S. Navy. He married Sharon Linstedt on January 23, 1965 in Colgate, Wisconsin. Dan coached and taught throughout Texas in the 60's and 70's before coming back home to Denton in 1978 to pursue the family concrete business. Dan influenced, inspired and helped many people throughout his life even up to the end as an educator for Denton I.S.D. at Strickland Middle School. He was a faithfull member of The Willowwood Church of the Nazarene, a church that he helped build. He will be missed, but his memory, stories and love will be cherished forever.
Dan is survived by his wife, Sharon Smith, daughter, Carrie Smith Palmer and her husband, Tony, son, Jeffery Dan Smith and his wife Laura, sister, Ann Waggoner, brother Butch Smith, grandchildren Corissa and Zach Palmer and Mason Smith.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 5-7 PM at the Willowwood Church of the Nazarene on Willowwood Street in Denton. Services will be held at the church on Monday, at 3:00 PM with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
