On March 11, 2017, Wallace Lynch, a man of true generosity and honor, passed away at the age of 94, surrounded by the love of his family.

Wallace leaves his daughters Karyl Lee Smith and Tami Peevey of Argyle along with his long lineage of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Myrtle Lee Cunningham, with whom he was married for 59 years before her passing in 2003.

Born in a small wood frame house in the heart of Argyle on September 1, 1922, Wallace was raised by Carl and Lee Lynch as the youngest of nine. He was the fourth generation on his father's side of the family to live in Argyle. His father was a railroad worker, and his ancestors were the family after which Argyle's "Johns Well" is named.

In his early years, Wallace attended primary and middle school in a red brick schoolhouse on Eagle Drive in Argyle. Because no classes were offered past the ninth grade, he continued his education, graduating from Denton High School in 1939.

As a young adult, he worked many different jobs before being hired as a soda jerk at the City Drug Store, located on the south side of the square in Denton. Two local businessmen persuaded him to work for the First State Bank in Denton, "but I would make $5.00 less working for the bank than I did working at the drugstore and I thought I never would convince myself to go to the bank, but thank goodness, I finally listened." Wallace started as a bank teller and also walked door to door on the square collecting deposits. Later, he became a loan officer, constantly giving to people who couldn't find aid anywhere else, and all on a handshake. When asking around Denton, the response would be, "Yes, I know Wallace. He once gave me a loan for…".

In his later years at First State, Wallace served as a vice president, not retiring until 1987 after 45 years with the bank. He continued in the industry after his retirement, serving on the board of directors at First State and then Point Bank until 2015.

Wallace was baptized as a teenager in a stock tank (pond) off Hickory Hill Road in Argyle. He became a member of First Baptist Argyle, serving as a deacon for over 50 years. Wallace served his community in several capacities along with his service at First Baptist. He was one of the original founders of the Argyle Water Supply Corporation, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, served on the Argyle School Board, and helped build the old gym at what is now Argyle Intermediate School. He was a member of the Denton Optimist Club, a 32nd degree Shriner Mason, and served on the Board of Directors for Service Programs for Aging Needs (SPAN) in Denton. His generosity both with his time and money was a blessing to many.

Wallace held many hobbies including fishing, traveling, and enjoying a good cigar, bowl of Blue Bell, or anything to satisfy his sweet tooth. However, his favorite pastime was playing dominoes. You could always count on finding him at the domino hall in Denton every Tuesday night. He loved spending time with friends and family, especially if there was a set of dominoes nearby.

To display his passion to all, he had an oversized double six domino made to hang above the driveway of his home in Argyle.

Visitation will be held at DeBerry Funeral Home in Denton Tuesday, March 21st from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Argyle Wednesday, March 22nd at 10:00 A.M. Graveside services will follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery.
