Warren (Skipper) Pickard Whitson, III, was born on April 16, 1944, and passed away on June 30, 2026.
Skipper was preceded in death by his parents Warren Whitson Jr. & Cecille Bell Whitson, his siblings, Lynn Carrico and Jane Stroud, and his daughter, Karen Ansley.
Skipper was born and raised in Denton, Texas. After graduating, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He had a love for music and enjoyed playing guitar and singing, especially when surrounded by family and friends. Skipper also had a deep appreciation for photography and trains, and he was a devoted Longhorn fan. Above all, his true passion was truck driving. Throughout his lifelong career behind the wheel, he traveled well over five million miles across the country, seeing America from the road and building a legacy of hard work, dedication, and countless memories along the way.
Skipper had a sense of humor none of us could rival. He was incredibly funny, and his stories are still retold to this day. Whenever family and friends gathered, he loved telling stories about the Whitson’s — about growing up, about life, about himself. As we got older, those moments became an especially sweet gift, a chance to reminisce together, the good and the bad, and laugh until it hurt sometimes! There was so much love shared between Skip and his family over the years.
Skipper is survived by his wife, Glenda Whitson, his sister, Deanie Willis, his children, Jennifer Whitson (and husband John Cannon), Laura Whitson, Brian Whitson and Shanda Jonas, his grandchildren, Tyler, Justin, Hannah, Josh, Abby, David, James, Weston, Lane and Jaylen.
Skipper’s visitation will take place on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 10:00 - 11:00 am, followed by the funeral service from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at DeBerry Funeral Home, Denton TX.
Skipper will be laid to rest at Belew Cemetery in Aubrey, Texas immediately following the service.
Pallbearers are Luke Wilkerson, Terry North, Jodie Greg, Randy Diezman, Jerry and Terry Bagley.
