IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Willa Grace
"Jo" Armstrong
March 31, 1926 – October 25, 2017
Willa Grace "Jo" Armstrong left this world on October 25, 2017. Jo was born to Bernie and Esther Hoyle, along with her twin Macie Elizabeth "Jiggs", on March 31, 1926 in Poteau, Oklahoma.
Jo and Jiggs had great times together during their childhood and with their big brother Henry Alton Calloway and baby sister, Mary Inez "Jack." Throughout their lives the three sisters enjoyed singing harmony together.
When Jo was seventeen she and Christopher Columbus "Lum" Hayes eloped and began their life together, raising two sons, James and Gary. Jo was a loving mother and always adored her boys. The family spent most of their early years in New Mexico and moved back to Poteau after the boys were grown. Lum passed away in 1988. After his passing Jo spent several years as a checker at Poteau Foods where she was known to be both efficient and outspoken.
The customers at Poteau Foods got a kick out of Jo and one of her customers who especially liked her was Ned Loren Armstrong. She and Ned fell in love and married in Heavener, Oklahoma on December 22, 1990. They lived in Poteau; Kingman, Arizona; Delta, Colorado and finally Perry, Oklahoma. They wanted to be near Ned's sister Betty, her husband Jim and their extended family. They enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping. Jo's dear Ned passed away March 14, 2014 in Perry.
After Ned's passing, Jo moved to Savannah, Texas to be with Gary and his wife Clarinne "Clare," who was like a daughter to her. Gary and Clare loved and cared for Jo in their home until she passed away. Clare's daughter Stephanie Floyd and Clare's granddaughters, Emma and Madison, all accepted Jo as a treasured grandmother.
Jo was pre-deceased by her parents, Bernie and Esther Hoyle, her first husband, Lum, her second husband, Ned, her bother, H. Alton Calloway, her sisters, Macie E. Hoyle Smith and Mary I. Hoyle Cooper and her nephew, Larry Cooper.
Jo is survived by her son Gary and "daughter" Clare, son James and partner Jackson Cleaton, granddaughters Stefhanie Hayes and Stephanie Floyd, sister-law Betty (Jim), nieces, Jackie Jo Fastenow (David), Ellen Taylor, Mary Cannon, Lena Brower (David), Georgia Marr, nephews, Benny Calloway, Jerry Calloway (Brenda), Ron Calloway (Carolyn), Jim Calloway (Martha) as well as great-nieces and nephews, friends and extended family.
Jo was strong, enduring hardships throughout her life. But she was always fun-loving! Her family and friends will especially miss the delightful entertainment of her little song and dance routines! She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
