IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Willard Robert
Schafer
January 24, 1933 – October 23, 2025
Willard Robert "Bob" Schafer, 92, of Denton, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 23. Born on January 24, 1933, in Dayton, Ohio, Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many and led a life devoted to faith, family, and community.
Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska. Following his military service, he built a successful career in the financial industry, serving for many years as President and CEO of Daymon/River Valley Credit Union in Dayton, Ohio, before retiring in 1999.
A man of deep faith and music, Bob shared his love of worship as Choir Director at Dayton First Church of the Nazarene for many years. After retirement, he and his wife, Lynn, moved to Denton, Texas, to be near their grandchildren.
Bob loved God, his family, golf, cars, and baseball. He was a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds and, after settling in Texas, proudly cheered for the Texas Rangers alongside his family—eventually converting his wife, Lynn, into a devoted fan as well.
Preceded in death by his parents Willard and Mary Schafer, sisters Miriam Kooken, Doris Ross, Norma Dershem, Phyllis Dresbach and Jerelyn Schafer. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Anna Lynn Schafer; his children Lou Ann Schafer of Michigan, Jonathan Schafer (Beth Cantrell Schafer) and Melissa Schafer Spilker (Chris Spilker); grandchildren Lauren Schafer Brown (Joe Brown), Adam Spilker, Gillian Schafer, Cameron Spilker, and Gracelyn Spilker; and extended family members Joetta Neal, numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Prestonwood Pregnancy Center Dallas.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at DeBerry Funeral Directors Chapel on October 28, 2025 with a visitation at 1pm and service at 2pm.
Bob will be remembered for his kindness, steady faith, and the joy he brought to everyone who knew him.
