William "Bill" John Bengtson, 94 of Denton passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, just short of his 95th birthday. He was born September 29, 1928, in Worcester, MA., to Sigurd W. and Eva F. Baltrus Bengtson.

A World War II veteran, Bill joined the US Navy on March 29, 1946. He served as head cook on naval destroyers. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on January 30, 1950, and subsequently enrolled at Boston University where he graduated in the class of 1954. On March 20, 1954, Bill married Mary Farrar.

After 33 years with Xerox as a manager and instructor, Bill retired in 1994.  He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dallas for 36 years before moving to Denton where he joined Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus, as a 4th degree Knight, and was a past Grand Knight.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 15, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors including a rosary service at 5:30 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas with a burial to follow at the Calvary Hill Cemetery.

Bill is survived by his daughters, Mary and husband James Jones of Corpus Christi, Theresa and husband Robert Harris of Sachse, Catherine Johnston and partner Jack Landry of Denton, and Patricia and husband Edward Cash of Carrollton, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.

Bill is reunited in heaven with his wife of 67 years, Mary, daughter Susan, brother Robert, his parents and son-in-law James Johnston.
