Obituary

William Charles Borth, retired Denton educator and school administrator passed away on May 18, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society – Denton Village.  He was born in Sanger, Texas, on October 11, 1932, to Erwin W. Borth and Fannie Pauline (Anthony) Borth.  He was a longtime resident of Denton and his relatives date back to the 1800's in Denton County.  The stone at the Courthouse on the Square came from his great-grandfathers farm north of Denton on Ganzer Road.  He completed elementary school in Denton and graduated high school in Camden, Arkansas, in 1951.  In 1956 he graduated from Quachita Baptist University, formerly Quachita Baptist College, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas with a BA in Social Sciences.  On May 31, 1957, he married Mildred Hale, the love of his life and girlfriend from high school in Camden Arkansas.  They made their home in Denton where in 1960 he received a M Ed. From North Texas State University in Public School Administration.

He started his education career in 1957 in Coppell, Texas where he was a grade schoolteacher.  He transferred to the Denton Independent School District, Newton Rayzor Elementary in 1963 where he was a 6th grade teacher.  He was promoted in 1969, where he became a Denton Independent School District Administrator, as principal of Newton Rayzor Elementary until the spring of 1987.  During his years at Newton Rayzor, he organized the first summer school program (Explorer Trails) for the district.  He served on the Planning Committee for several years, served as vice-president and president of the then Denton County Unit of TSTA as well as president of the Denton Administrators Association.  He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, a professional fraternity, and was awarded a life membership in the National Congress of the Parent Teachers Association.  In the fall of 1987, he opened Hodge Elementary and retired from that position in 1990 after 34 years of service as an educator.

In addition to his career in public education he spent many years teaching Sunday School classes and home Bible studies.  At the time of his death, he was a member of Benchmark Bible Church. Other interests included traveling, reading and planting a beautiful vegetable garden each year.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred, and sister-in-law Linda Borth of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Anthony Borth.  He was blessed with several nephews and other relatives and friends, and they were all very important in his life.  The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Anthology Senior Care of Denton, Good Samaritan Society – Lake Forest and Denton Village, and Visiting Nurses Association for his special care over the past eight months and Living Well Senior Care, especially Katie Swift for their loving care over the past 3+ years.  You will all hold a special place in our hearts forever.
