On the morning of June 16 2024, Father's Day, William Ryan Casserly Jr. of Denton, Texas, passed away peacefully at the age of 98.

Bill was born in Atchison, Kansas to the late William Ryan Casserly and Ruth Klostermeier, on July 23, 1925. He graduated from Independence High School in Independence, Kansas in 1943 and received his bachelor's degree from Portland University in 1950.

After a semester at Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Bill joined the United States Navy in 1943 and served aboard the aircraft carrier, Kitkun Bay, for the duration of World War II. His service included campaigns at Leyte Gulf in the Philippines, Peleliu, and mainland Japan. Following the war, Bill returned to Independence, where he married the former Shirley Deane Crane in 1947, and was blessed with eight children.

He began his career in Independence with Platte Pipeline before transferring to Sinclair Oil in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He later worked for Continental Oil in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Houston, Texas, where he was head of the Right of Way and Claims Division. He retired in 1984 and returned to Atchison with his wife.

Bill enjoyed woodworking, camping, gardening, traveling, and reading. He donated generously to Portland University and Benedictine College in Atchison.

Bill is preceded in death by his father William and his mother Ruth, his wife Shirley, son Stephen Andrew Casserly, and his granddaughter Toni Lane Casserly. He is survived by seven children, Michael David, Mary Margaret, William Henry, Carolyn Ann, John Peter, Rebecca Sue, and Carl Nicholas, along with eleven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be said at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Independence, Kansas, at 10:00 am on Friday, June 21, 2024.
