Obituary

William Paul Reed, known as "Bill", of Kilgore, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on May 18, 2025, in his original hometown of Denton, Texas. Born on April 12, 1938, to Paul and Opal Weber Reed in Hutchinson, Kansas, Bill lived a life full of devotion to family, faith, and service.

As a child, Bill grew up in Denton. He enjoyed all things that you would imagine a true "Country Boy" would get to enjoy.  Riding horses bareback and shooting guns down by the creek at a very young age was common entertainment.  Getting in trouble with his lifelong best friend, Jack, was not uncommon.

In High School, Bill met D'Alva.  They dated into their college years and eventually got married.  They were inseparable for 65 years spending most of their life in Kilgore, TX. They loved all things in "good ole" East Texas. They only recently moved back to Denton, TX where it all began.

Bill was a proud father to Billy and Bobby Reed. Billy, the older son, and his wife Erin of Argyle TX have six children: Addison (married to Dillon Baker), Halley, Kaelyn, Shelby, Braxton, and Colton. Bobby and his wife Kati of Dripping Springs, TX have three children: Camdyn, Maci, and Luke. Known as "Papa" to his nine grandchildren, Bill cherished every moment spent with them.

Bill graduated from The University of North Texas and went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Air Force for four years. After his military service, Bill enjoyed a successful career in sales with American Packing and Gasket and American Seal in Houston, Texas, where he worked until his retirement in 1998.

Bill had a great sense of humor and could easily connect with others through humor. He could joke with any generation. And he was always adored and respected by his son's friends to this day.  Bill loved to take his family boating and camping.  For many, camping trips to Lake Travis are some of their best memories. He also introduced his family to many great family vacations that will always be remembered.  He was a sports lover. (Yes, a Cowboys fan). He coached both his sons' little league teams in almost every sport they played in many years of youth leagues.  Football, baseball, and basketball.  He coached them all. Even well into his later years he could still play golf with his sons, and even beat them in a game of Horse on the basketball court.  Late night competition on the basketball court was common with his sons and will always be cherished.

He was active in their local church. A cancer survivor, having overcome stage 4 melanoma, Bill demonstrated strength, resilience, and faith throughout his life.  He was an inspiration to many that have also experienced their own individual battles with cancer. He was a walking miracle and was always ready to share his story and offer his support in times of need to others. He felt that was one of many reasons God healed him from cancer.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sudy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, D'Alva Mitchell Reed, his two sons, and a legacy of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who adored him.

Bill's legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty lives on in all who knew him.

A funeral service and celebration of Bill's life will be held on Thursday May 29th, 2025, in Denton, Texas at the Bill DeBerry Funeral Home. Visitation will start at 1pm with the Funeral starting at 2pm.
