William David Scott, age 73, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 24, 2025.
David was born on July 16, 1952, in Madill, Oklahoma, to Norris and Joyce Scott, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Yeargan Scott; his daughter, Melissa Scott McHugh; his son-in-law, Matthew McHugh; and his cherished grandchildren, Joyce and Tucker McHugh, who were all the pride and joy of his life.
David graduated from Gainesville High School in 1970 and later earned a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree from the University of North Texas.
David dedicated more than 40 years to an impressive and honorable career in law enforcement, serving the citizens of North Texas with integrity, courage, and unwavering commitment. His service included the City of Denton Police Department, the Denton County Sheriff’s Department, and the Cooke County Sheriff’s Office, where he ultimately retired as Chief Deputy Sheriff.
David served the citizens of City of Denton for over 30 years, building a reputation as a respected leader and fierce advocate for community safety. After retiring from City of Denton, he continued his calling in law enforcement as a Narcotics Lieutenant for Denton County, before concluding his career as Chief Deputy Sheriff of Cooke County.
Throughout his career, David was proudly recognized multiple times by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for his work with multi-agency drug enforcement task forces. He played a critical role in dismantling major narcotics rings, leaving a lasting and positive impact on the communities he served.
In 1991, David was shot in the chest while on duty, an act of bravery that exemplified his selfless dedication to protecting others. For his courage and sacrifice, he was awarded one of the highest honors, the Purple Heart.
Following retirement, David embraced life as a ranch manager and devoted grandfather. He took great pride in helping family, friends, and neighbors whenever they were in need. His generosity and willingness to serve others extended far beyond his uniform.
David loved spending time with his family and treasured traditions that brought them together. He enjoyed many years of hunting with close friends, attending gun shows, and hosting the beloved Scott Ranch Memorial Day gatherings for friends and neighbors. One of his greatest fulfillment was creating lasting memories with his grandchildren, including annual snowboarding RV trips, which became a cherished family tradition.
Above all, David lived with purpose and heart. He was always on a mission to make life better for those around him, leaving behind a legacy of service, strength, kindness, and love.
