Willie (Dub) Jones Turner Jr. passed away July 5th, 2012. He was born March 20, 1917, in Orange, TX, to the late Willie Jones Turner Sr. and Dorothy Bradbury Turner. He attended and graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston, TX, in 1935.
Dub served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, in the First Bomb Squadron, 38th Bomb Group, as Maintenance Officer for his squadron of B-25's during WW II, in the South Pacific. He attained the rank of Lieutenant.
Mr. Turner graduated from the University of Texas Petroleum Engineering School in 1940. He went to work for Sun Oil Company immediately after graduation as a Petroleum Engineer in the Corpus Christi, TX area. He continued his career with Sun Oil for thirty-eight years and retired in 1978 as Western Regional Manager where he was in charge of drilling and exploration for the western US.
He was preceded by his wife of 48 years, Mildred Hooks Turner, Mission, TX, and his wife of 21 years, Thelma Turner, Denton, TX.
Dub is survived by his sons, Ronald, Denton, TX; and Roger, Houston, TX; sister Margret Anthes, Kingsville, TX; step-daughter Betty and husband Joe Roy, Denton, TX ; step-daughter Sharon Waite, and husband Joe Metz, Mission, TX; five grandchildren: Eric Turner, Denver, CO, Michael Turner, Houston, TX, Zane Turner, Houston, TX, Sammy Turner, Lake Havasu, AZ and Krystal Turner, Plano, TX , and four great grandchildren: Ella, Grayson, Robert and Daly.
Dub was a member of First United Methodist Church in Denton. A memorial service will be held in Cole Chapel at First United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 15, 2:00 PM.
