Winona Loftice
Dees
April 18, 1931 – May 29, 2026
Winona Loftice Dees passed away peacefully in her home on May 29, 2026 at the age of 95. She was truly a woman of faith, love, and grace.
Winona was born in 1931. She was raised on the Loftice family farm in Celina, Texas with six siblings: Lester, Nina, Roberta, J.P., Ruth, and Neal. Throughout her life, she spoke fondly of her days on the farm and remained close to the family she treasured.
After graduating as the valedictorian of her high school, she moved to Dallas and soon met the love of her life, Bob Dees. They married in 1949. Bob joined the Air Force and their lifelong journey together began. Their union lasted 72 years, filled with deep love, commitment, and devotion for one another.
Family became the center of Winona's life. With each Air Force relocation and their eventual retirement in Denton, she kept the family grounded and made each new house feel comfortable and welcoming with a variety of music frequently playing in the background. She was the consummate hostess when gatherings were held. From delicious food and classy music, to an elegant table, easy conversation, and smooth clean up, she was always calm and beautiful. She had a gift for gathering people together in a relaxing manner. Even in her declining last years, she routinely asked "Can I get anything for you?" Many memories from these times will be treasured for generations.
She was defined by many additional interests and talents. She painted landscapes and nature with an eye for detail and beauty. She loved gardening and made sure that every home along the way had flowers in the landscape. Her home was always beautifully decorated, with unique furnishings from their worldwide Air Force travels. She was a member of the Bungalow Class at the First United Methodist Church in Denton for several decades. She participated in many Denton community organizations, always touching the lives of others with her kind spirit.
Winona is survived by her three children: Dianne (Bill), Wayne, and Suzanne (David). Also surviving her are grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each one was adored and loved by her beyond measure. They brought her immense joy, evidenced by the many pictures, artwork, cards, and letters from them, which were proudly displayed throughout her home. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members and dear friends who will miss her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents and siblings, and other loved ones who welcomed her into eternal peace.
Winona's legacy is one of love, faith, creativity, service, and family. Her gentle spirit, warm smile, and devotion to those she loved will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Her family wishes to thank the dedicated caregiver and hospice teams who compassionately cared for her, as well as family members who tirelessly gave her their love and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to The First United Methodist Church of Denton. A private graveside service was held honoring Winona.
