Bette Jacqueline Zwicker Kinard, born 10/20/1923 in Atlanta, GA passed away on 5/10/23 Wednesday morning, at home with family present. She is survived by her daughter Melinda Kinard and her two children: Nate Byerly and Marche Byerly; daughter Gina Kinard and her three children: Jordis Juren McLaughlin, Colin Juren and Katie Rodgers; daughter Leslie Rives, son in law Tim Rives and their three children: Kyle Rives, Amy Kemp and Michael Rives; son Konrad Kinard and his two children: Lola and Taro Kinard and 8 great grandchildren!
Bette's husband for over 70 years, Dr. Conrad Kinard, passed in 2015. He always gave her the credit she deserved as she worked tirelessly providing for her family, allowing Conrad to help establish Denton Regional Medical Center and provide excellent care for patients needing hope and healing.
Bette met Conrad, the love of her life, at 13. He was her paper boy. She was awarded the Bausch and Lomb award in High School and later supported her husband while he was in medical school as a lab technician. Moved to Atlanta to get married on June 15th, 1946. Bette and Conrad moved to Denton in 1953.
She sent her girls to 'the ranch' every week for a real Texas adventure and let them bring home any animal to raise. She kept her daughters' wardrobes up to date by sewing the most popular trends. Always did the mom thing … hot homemade chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies after school. Constantly carpooling the kids all over town and always had time to cook a hot family meal that brought the family back together. Brownie and Girl Scout Leader for years. Was witty and wrote scripts for the Girl Scout plays and directed the presentations.
