Obituary

Earl A. Humphrey 93, of Denton, Texas, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at his home at the Carriage House in Denton.  Earl was born in Clarksville, Texas, to Lucian and Viva Humphrey.  He is survived by two children, Wayne (Sally) Humphrey of Lansing, MI, Marlene (John) Trissell of Aubrey, TX, and daughter-in-law Diana Humphrey of Houston, TX; 12 grandchildren, Morgan (Delia), Allison (Bryan), Jonathan, Andrew (Elizabeth), Sarah, Clayton, Emily (Steven), Grace (Gene), Thomas, Rebecca (Chase), Betsy Belle and John Daniel; 20 great grandchildren; two sisters, Charlene and Ruby; two brothers, Monte and Glenn; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Earl was preceded in death by his loving wife Joyce of 66 years, his son Gene Earl, his parents, infant sister Elizabeth and brother Donald.

Mr. Humphrey grew up in the Clarksville area and served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.  He was a self made man who enjoyed cattle ranching, Gulf of Mexico oilfield work, and owning and operating a barbeque restaurant and pest control business in the Lone Star/McCoy area of Red River County.  He also was elected as a Red River County Commissioner.  Earl was a member of the Sherman Drive Church of Christ in Denton and a former member and deacon of the Church of Christ in Clarksville.  Earl was known as a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and was a true and honest friend to all he met.  He loved to sing hymns with Joyce and children and entertained many with his voice.  His interests included fishing, traveling with Joyce and family, watching old Westerns, and following his favorite baseball and football teams.  He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 2-4 PM.
