Herschel Coy Carter, 81, of Justin, passed peacefully at home on Monday, November 7, 2022. On August 21, 1941, he was born in Aubrey, Texas, to John David "Frog" and Lena Carter. In 1966, he was married to the love of his life Brenda Carter.
Coy was a decorated U.S. Army veteran. He was an Ammunition Bearer in the weapon platoon of B Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Calvary of the U.S. Army. He fought valiantly to receive the Bronze Star Medal for his heroism in Vietnam. Coy will be remembered as a man with great determination and grit. After the Army, Coy spent many years working with his fencing business in the Justin community. His greatest joys in life though always included his family and close friends.
He is survived by his wife Brenda, of Justin. Brother Bobby Grimes and his wife Rose of Bridgeport. Daughter Cheryl Mitchell and husband Bill of Justin. Son Ty Carter and wife Traci of Montague. Daughter Christy Carter of Denton. Grandchildren Matthew Mitchell and wife Leslie of Justin, Travis Mitchell and wife Chessie of Justin, Aaron Watson of Montague, Jordan Doughty of Denton and Tyler Carter of Montague. Great-grandchildren McKenna Mitchell, Aubree Mitchell, Callaway Mitchell, and McKray Mitchell all of Justin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Joan Brown and brother, Leon Grimes.
On Sunday, November 13th, the family will receive friends from 4-6 PM at the DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, TX. Due to inclement weather on Monday, a graveside will be held at Eakins Cemetery in Ponder, Texas on Tuesday, November 15th at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Jamie McClain officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Coy by making a donation in his name to the Justin Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 613, Justin, Texas 76247.
