Obituary

Linda Sue Fite – a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend – passed away on January 27, 2023.  She was 77 and lived in Denton, Texas.

Linda was born on December 10, 1945, to Arthur and Hazel Powell in North Little Rock, Arkansas.  She graduated from North Little Rock High School and went to work for General Electric, where she met her future husband, Mel.

Mel and Linda moved to California in 1972, where they raised their three kids. She was a commanding Girl Scout troop leader, baseball team mom, and fierce advocate and teacher for her children and their friends.  Linda also continued to work in the lighting industry as an inside sales leader and office manager until they moved Danville, Illinois in 1988.  In Illinois she focused on church service and support of her family and friends.

They later moved to Texas, Mel's home state, in 1993. Linda was an active participant and leader wherever she landed and made lifelong connections and friendships everywhere she went.  During her more than 20 years at Lake Kiowa, Texas, Linda served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Women's Club.  Linda loved to play bridge, mahjong and other games with her friends and family, always stopping to teach her young grandchildren and their friends various game-winning strategies.

She and Mel eventually moved to Denton where she served as a Stephen Leader in conjunction with Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church.  Throughout her life, faith and love was central to who she was and how she served others.

Linda is survived by her husband, Melvin Fite; son, Richard Fite and his wife, Leah; daughter, Holly Lindsey and her wife, Carol; son, Jonathon Fite and his fiancée, Christina; brother, Wendell Powell and his wife Carol; sister, Jettie Holland; and grandchildren, Jackson Fite, James Fite, Sophia Lindsey-Boeck, Benjamin Lindsey-Boeck, and Andrew Fite.

Linda was preceded in death by her mother and father, Hazel and Arther Powell; sister, Freeda Sherrill; daughter-in-law, Norine Dewey; and daughter-in-law, Jeanie Rountree Fite.

Services will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, the memorial will be live streamed and can be accessed here: https://www.standrewdenton.com/memorial-service

Linda believed strongly in giving of herself in both time and donations. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to ALS research through ALS Therapy Development Institute , an organization Linda felt strongly about.  Or honor her memory with a donation or time to any cause dear to your heart.
