Travis was born in Texas into a military family. As a boy he played baseball and was a Boy Scout. He loved the outdoors. He was raised in several states and in England, ultimately settling in Arizona, where he graduated from high school and attended college.
He worked for the past 19 years for Kiewit, Inc. on projects in Colorado, Nevada, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Texas. He started with Kiewit as a Quality Technician, then as an Inspector, and ultimately worked his way up to being a Quality Specialist. He was very proud to work for Kiewit and proud of the various highway, bridge, dam, DART rail and border fence projects to which he was assigned.
